We start our hike in the small village of Loutra and ascend through tranquil olive groves and shady pine woods to the peak of the mountain Profitis Ilias. Profitis Ilias is the highest point on the eastern side of the island. On clear days the panorama over parts of the island and the capital Mytilini with its beautiful harbour and marina is amazing. We continue our hike, walk downhill and reach the little church of Agios Vartholomaeos, which is also a pleasant picnic spot. We now join the main Loutra-Taxiarchis track with stunning views to the Gulf of Gera as we head to Loutra.
From Loutra we drive a few minutes to the tiny harbour of Koundouroudia. In the fish taverna we sit down for a delicious lunch before we board the little ferry boat, which will take us over the Gulf of Gera to the small village of Perama.
We have a stroll through the village and enjoy a coffee at the harbour before we return on the ferry boat to Koundouroudia, where we end our day trip.
