We start our hike in the small fishing village of Skamnioudi on the Gulf of Kalloni. We walk along the gulf and reach the small lake, Alikoudi. In summer the lake is dry, but in spring you may find groups of flamingos and other birds. Along the coastline we can explore some remains of old stone walls and pottery of Ancient Pyrrha. We leave the coast and hike inland. On tracks and later on old Kalderimi (donkey paths) we ascend – always with lovely views to the gulf area and the coastline. We reach a ruined hamlet with an ancient cistern in a cave.
Finally we come to the traditional village of Lisvori and sit down in a local kafenion for a coffee amongst the local elderly Greeks, absorbing a bit of the atmosphere. We continue our hike to the Hot Springs of Lisvori. Currently the spa is closed, but the spring and the ancient bath houses are still worth seeing. From here we descend through tranquil olive groves and fields to the coast. By the harbour of Skamnioudi we settle down in one of the tavernas and enjoy Janula’s tasty Greek dishes.
You could even go on a boat trip with Captain Mitsos after the meal. He will show you the daily business of a fisherman, throw out the nets and maybe dive to catch some seafood.
